The string course will be held during the Båstad Chamber Music Festival 24-29 June 2024 with arrival on Monday evening on June 24th. It is offered by the Malmö Academy of Music in collaboration with Musik i Syd and the festival.

The course is free of charge.

The course is aimed at string players who want to develop their chamber music skills and their playing in terms of technique, practice methodology and interpretation. An individual plan is drawn up for each participant at the start of the course, based on their specific wishes.The teaching involves daily individual lessons, seminars and chamber music coaching. Participants will also have access to concerts at the Båstad Chamber Music Festival, and time to practice on their own. The course concludes with a public concert.

Admission to the course:

Admission is based on an assessment of the applications and resumes submitted by the applicant.

Resumes and repertoire lists should be emailed to coordinator Thea Lundbäck at the Malmö Academy of Music

no later than April 1st. Playing samples may be added. A limited number of participants will be accepted.

Entry requirements:

Basic and special qualifications: Studying or have studied at a music academy/conservatory or equivalent, minimum 7.5 credits in instrumental studies.

ERIK HEIDE is one of Denmark’s most acclaimed violin players, for example as a member of Trio

Ondine which won the awards DR Artist of the Year and New Generation Artists from the BBC.

He is concert master of the Danish National Chamber Orchestra. and also visiting concertmaster of the Hamburg Staatsoper, Oslo Philharmonic, Odense Byorkester amongst others.Alongside an extensive solo career, he is featured as soloist in Poul Ruders’ first Violin Concerto on DaCapo records and in various recent Danish piano trios with Trio Ondine. Erik Heide is Professor of violin at the Malmö Academy of Music since 2022.

HENRIK FRENDIN is known as one of the most distinguished and versatile Scandinavian violists of today. A long career as soloist and chamber musician, since his debut in 1989, has led him to perform in most parts of the world. He is presented on several labels as BIS, Phono Suecia, Dragon, Db-producitons amongst others. As a teacher, he has made numerous international master classes. His workshops based on his unique method have broken new ground. Several of his students claim top positions in Swedish orchestras. He is since 2013 Professor of viola & chamber music and Head of Strings at the Malmö Academy of Music.

MATS LIDSTRÖM is one of Sweden’s most internationally renowned cellists. He has worked as Principal cellist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London and being guest-principal with The Royal Concertgebouw, Los Angeles

Philharmonic Orchestra amongst all the London orchestras. As a soloist he has performed with numerous of the world’s leading orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Deutsche S.O.Berlin, Czech Philharmonic and the Dallas Symphony, with conductors such as André Previn, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Maxim Shostakovitch. He is since 1993 Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and has given master classes all over the world. Mats Lidström is since 2023 Guest Professor at the Malmö Academy of Music.
